phaser12 ::: Favorites yeah people should respect religions and keep there crap to themselves.Its just a waste of time,just do something else 07-07-29 03:03:42 _____________________________________________________

2EZEE ::: Favorites As Superintendent Chalmers says on THE SIMPSONS: "religion has about as much place in school as reason does in churches". And like the B.C. it is all meant as satire and yes even ridicule. But having a rational discussion with religion has usually led to the non-religious being the victims of witchhunts, inquisitions, pogroms, burning at the stake ..etc etc. Religion does not have a good track for reason. In fact rationality is the mortal enemy of religion. 07-07-06 01:35:47 _____________________________________________________
panentheist ::: Favorites You say: "In fact rationality is the mortal enemy of religion." Then why ridicule? Use your rationality to debate. 07-07-06 03:56:38 _____________________________________________________
2EZEE ::: Favorites It's hard not to ridicule. I used to be a christian minister. Graduated from a christian university with a BA in religion and became an anthiest in a conservative Seminary (and dropped out LOL). I know the verses that villify free thought in the bible, the attitude toward women, increadibly racist attitude of the old testament. And why not ridicule a concept that is based on fear of death and the unknown! I am astounded at myself that it took me so long to break with the superstition. 07-07-11 00:31:58 _____________________________________________________
evil221884 ::: Favorites Hey congratulations for escaping the religious theist virus. I would buy you a beer if you lived in sydney :) 07-08-02 06:37:57 _____________________________________________________
SonOfMan2 ::: Favorites READ PSALM 110 07-06-12 17:51:36 _____________________________________________________
cnic ::: Favorites I agree and I don't... I see this as a good starting point, sometimes setting off a bomb is the best way to open a dialog. it would be a great thing if a respectful discussion could happen more often, but I honestly don't think there's much room for it from any "believe what I believe, or burn forever" belief system, or the natural response to it. I just don't think too many are that mature. 07-06-11 22:55:40 _____________________________________________________
panentheist ::: Favorites Thank you for your comment. I don't like the "believe what I believe, or burn forever" belief system either, but i believe in a respectful dialogue. I'm glad to see that you think a respectful discussion should happen more often. 07-06-12 06:47:30 _____________________________________________________
converse02 ::: Favorites BTW, I wouldn't classify Thomas Jefferson a fool. 07-06-07 19:27:13 _____________________________________________________
panentheist ::: Favorites Not a fool, but surely a foolish quote! You should respect EVERYONE, also those who have another opinion/religion. 07-06-09 08:56:26 _____________________________________________________
4Article1 ::: Favorites That Jefferson quote is taken out of context, he wasn't speaking of religion then. What he said of religion was:"I never told my religion nor scrutinize that of another. I never attempted to make a convert nor wished to change another's creed. I have judged of others' religion by their lives, for it is from our lives and not from our words that our religion must be read. By the same test must the world judge me. 07-06-09 14:41:16 _____________________________________________________
converse02 ::: Favorites Read your quote again, you are calling Jefferson a fool. Heed your own words and respect those who are denying the Holy Spirit. 07-06-11 00:13:57 _____________________________________________________
thxeleventhirtyeight ::: Favorites I suspect the point was to counter one quote that supported use of ridicule with one that didn't i.e. he countered an argumentum ad verecundiam with one of his own. 07-06-11 00:32:45 _____________________________________________________
panentheist ::: Favorites That is true friend. The guy is twisting my words. I never claimed Jefferson was a fool. 07-06-11 15:23:58 _____________________________________________________
converse02 ::: Favorites The Jefferson quote supports the use of ridicule in certain situations and is hardly an argumentum ad verecundiam. It still stands. Regardless, I still deny the Holy Spirit, and my main focus is to say I disgree in that I realize that it is VERY IMPORTANT these videos are out there to let everyone know what some atheists honestly think of their Holy Spirit. I hope the blasphemy videos keep coming and more ppl use this media, along with many, to express themshelves. 07-07-04 16:32:48 _____________________________________________________
thxeleventhirtyeight ::: Favorites The quote isn't per se. My reason for saying that it was is due to the context in which it was used - throwing quotes back and forth. The point isn't about what Jefferson said, but rather how what he said was used. Personally I disagree that the B.C. videos are important and are rather detrimental as the "hype factor" seems to detract from the rational use of volition in the individual. 07-07-04 18:41:55 _____________________________________________________
panentheist ::: Favorites @converse02: Of course you have every right to deny the holy spirit, but i still recommend to do it in a respectful way. I think the B.C. has no value at all. It's just a hype. 07-07-06 04:00:16 _____________________________________________________ |
