ski skiing extreme Verbier Switzerland snow avalanche freeride powder alps Lawine Schweiz Schneebrett
Description: Verbier, Switzerland. Skiing on an official off piste slope. March 14th 2006, Nice sunny day, no clouds, no wind. Avalanche risk level 3 of 5. I'm the guy skiing (not the guy filming). I have skied out of the avalanche to the right behind the rock. See for yourself. Note: We were equipped with Ortovox avalanche systems, shovels, probes etc. |

ollie3 ::: Favorites 2007-09-05 10:30:28 Nad021192: It takes time to say: "tu doit déscendre rapidement puis te mettre sur le coté!"... "STOP!" is a good, quick and loud shout to signal friends the avalanche is following them and they have to check how to get out. Of course you need to clarify which commands are going to use in case of avalance. In this case "STOP" means "abort your descent as quick as possible and get out of the slope", but is quicker and more intelligible than a long sentence. Got it? Ciao! __________________________________________________

deeppowder11 ::: Favorites 2007-08-19 14:39:49 Wrong! This skiier did the right thing by continuing down the fall line, keeping his speed and then grdually getting out of the way. If he would have stopped he would have been buried. You have to react to each avalanche differenty. But thanks anyway for the attempt to educate us there samurai. __________________________________________________
