Of course corporations are competing with the government over power over our lives, but this isn't the work of a deliberate conspiracy; rather it is a systemic problem caused by the fact that news corporations are motivated primarily by profit, which makes actually investigating the news more difficult in a sea of potential sensationalistic stories which would be much more lucrative for them to cover.
