HA! Child abuse happens everywhere but NZ is the 4th highest in the developed countries. It is mainly a maori problem as domestic violence rages amongst Maori are eight times higher than the rate for non-Maori, and child abuse, twelve times higher. So much for the "treaty" it doesnt mean anything anymore. Its not about peace when u hit ur kid and skip off to the pub!!! IDIOTS!

You are so right -- it is not about colour at all. Never was, nor about race. But rates of violence and child abuse are strongly correlated to poverty, deprivation and a sense of hopelessness. Maori have these things in higher proportion than non-Maori. This is a reason -- it is not an excuse -- there are NO EXCUSES. But if you want real solutions, you need to look to the causes, how abusers got to those situations and how to break the cycles and avoid CA in the future. Stop kicking the dog!

Thanks for all these comments. Just want to add that when you watch this video, don't look at the colour of their skin, it isn't important. What's important is the message to us as kiwis, don't switch off your lights - whether you're maori, euro, indian or asian, whatever, this message is for you, ACT NOW, do something about it.

Maori culture isnt worse than any other but Maori ARE worse off than every other group in NZ - they alone have been systematically dispossessed by successive governments. This doesnt excuse individual Maori for their crimes but it does explain why there are so many desperate Maori who become capable of committing such atrocities to kids that they should love. I have facts if you are interested or you can stay in your blissful emigrant ignorance. Maori dont have that luxury! Stop kicking the dog!

Your children & my child, now in his teens, are our responsibility. To all you parents, don't walk around with your eyes closed, walk with your head up & ears open wide. Team work people, its called Team Work. If you see or hear domestics concerning children, please don't hesitate to step in whether it be through phone call or other means. If you know of any families (Young parents with children) going through trials & tribulations, ACT IMMEDIATELY.

Are you referring to us as a people of our culture, our values & our faith, negligence & murderers? Word of advice!!! I suggest you read upon the Treaty of Waitangi, and submerge to the depth of your research. It's not your rightful place to judge & label ALL MAORI for all that occurs in this world. Our Cultural Values, faith, and practices we devote to, bearing in mind, in every district, we have our uniqueness about us, per province.

I just can't understand why anyone would want to hurt an innocent child? from that clip i saw that it was a lot of step dads..but regardless of whoever is the abuser, its gotta be put out on tv etc so that people can face a reality that they don't like to see...maybe they should introduce a system where abusers get exactly what they inflicted on the beautiful kids hmmm point is nz is to lenient
