whytes000 ::: Favorites HA! Child abuse happens everywhere but NZ is the 4th highest in the developed countries. It is mainly a maori problem as domestic violence rages amongst Maori are eight times higher than the rate for non-Maori, and child abuse, twelve times higher. But rates of violence and child abuse are strongly correlated to poverty, deprivation and a sense of hopelessness. Maori have these things in higher proportion than non-Maori. This is a reason -- it is not an excuse -- there are NO EXCUSES. But if you want real solutions, you need to look to the causes, how abusers got to those situations and how to break the cycles and avoid CA in the future. This doesnt excuse individual Maori for their crimes but it does explain why there are so many desperate Maori who become capable of committing such atrocities to kids that they should love.
