Description:

Glenn Close as Norma Desmond and the cast of "Sunset Boulevard" performing "As If We Never Said Goodbye" at the 1995 Tony Awards. "AS IF WE NEVER SAID GOODBYE" (Andrew Lloyd Webber, Christopher Hampton and Don Black) I don't know why I'm frightened I know my way around here The cardboard trees, the painted seas, the sound here... Yes, a world to rediscover But I 'm not in any hurry And I need a moment The whispered conversations in overcrowded hallways The atmosphere as thrilling here as always Feel the early morning madness Feel the magic in the making Why, everything's as if we never said goodbye I've spent so many mornings just trying to resist you I'm trembling now, you can't know how I've missed you Missed the fairy tale adventure In this ever spinning playground We were young together I'm coming out of make-up The lights already burning Not long until the cameras will start turning... And the early morning madness And the magic in the making Yes, everything's as if we never said goodbye I don't want to be alone That's all in the past This world's waited long enough I've come home at last! And this time will be bigger And brighter than we knew it So watch me fly, we all know I can do it... Could I stop my hand from shaking? Has there ever been a moment With so much to live for? The whispered conversations in overcrowded hallways So much to say not just today but always... We'll have early morning madness We'll have magic in the making Yes, everything's as if we never said goodbye Yes, everything's as if we never said goodbye... We taught the world new ways to dream!

This song from Sunset Boulevard was entitled as if we never said goodbye this is much better in her version in Andrew Llyod Weber

This is a fantastic role! And it has actually been played fantastically well, very differently, by many! And this is a fantastic performance! But re Joe Gillis, both the gorgeous John Barrowman and Hugh Jackmam are both 40 now. And the whole point re the character is that he is still supposed to be very young (25), and still efectively an untried writer rather than a failed one. He shouldn't have sold out for an easy life. But that should have been able to be a reversible mistake!

It is such a great part this! And it has actually been performed very well, very differently, by many. But this is a special performance! But re Joe Gillis, the gorgeous John Barrowman doesn't look it, but is 40 now, as is Hugh Jackman! The whole point re the character is that he is only supposed to be 25, and his having effectively sold out without really having tried, is still reversible!

It´s a shame she didn´t do the film EVITA directed by Oliver Stone in the end. l am 100% sure it would have been better than the 1997 Alan Parker´s version.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! You cannot ask for more vulnerability than she gives up there. She tuly "gets" the character.

Exquisite Glen Close. Up against the talents of Barbra, Patti, Betty, Elaine and Petula (and non-singing but brilliant actress Meryl) - sorry ladies.....its Glen's role. And as Joe, the writer, John Barrowman or Hugh Jackman. Love you all.But we shall see,eh? K.

I completely agree! An imperfect voice oftentimes describes a character perfectly, which is why I feel Glenn is the best Norma.
