Description: I provide the evidence that the Bible was either: A-written by ignorant men B-an ignorant god C-the world is flat Prov 8:26-27 NRSV) when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world's first bits of soil. When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep Isa 40:22 NRSV) It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in Not above one side of the ball, wraps around like a bandage, a bubble to live in. KingHeathen ::: Favorites didn't say writings, but "findings" again, look up world maps of that area. They believed Heaven was in the sky above us and hell was underneath us. Surely you understand that concept as it is prevelant today, looking up to Heaven or going "down" to Hell. 07-09-04 11:21:46 __________________________________________________
gremjaw ::: Favorites What historical writings? 07-08-31 14:06:05 __________________________________________________
KingHeathen ::: Favorites There were several people that speculated on both sides of the argument. But we aren't talking about that region. In Israel, it is confirmed through historical findings that they believed in a flat Earth. 07-08-31 12:08:47 __________________________________________________
steVVart ::: Favorites Tell me, do you know of anything about this: "King Atlas, a mythical King of Mauretania, was, according to legend, a wise philosopher, mathematician and astronomer who supposedly made the first celestial globe" Could it be that this ancient knew the earth was spherical? 07-08-31 08:38:07 __________________________________________________
KingHeathen ::: Favorites never seen a round tent? I get your point, but one thing is for sure...the people back then thought the world was flat and that's why they put it in their book. 07-08-30 00:28:43 __________________________________________________
Gadrill ::: Favorites "When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and one stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou are mindful of him?" (Ps. 8:3-4) So much for a flat earther 07-08-29 14:17:46 __________________________________________________
steVVart ::: Favorites If you take the rest literally then the earth must be a flat square for the tent to fit. If it was a flat circle it doesn't work so well 07-08-29 11:51:08 __________________________________________________
KingHeathen ::: Favorites "could" doesn't mean it DOES. When you read the rest of the verse it's clear that it means a flat circle. Even if it didn't all you've done is create another contradiction with the 46 other verses I pointed out. 07-08-28 14:48:03 __________________________________________________
steVVart ::: Favorites Nice videos. Still though, you ignore the fact that the verse in isaiah could mean a sphere: It uses the hebrew word חוג which means: tropic, circle, compass, including sphere So while כדור is a better choice of words, it could still mean a sphere 07-08-28 03:39:03 __________________________________________________
KingHeathen ::: Favorites no, the difference would have to do with centrifical force. If the Earth stands still and the Sun revolved around it, and the sun stops, all you have to worry about is the prolonged day and increased heat. Depending on the season, maybe not a big deal. The other way around and we would all die of massive earthquakes, sunamis, and well...concussive winds that would either crush us or fling us across the world. 07-08-09 16:13:35 __________________________________________________ |
